Napoléon vint à Rouen en 1802 visiter les nombreuses usines textiles rouennaises. Il permit le développement de cette industrie, fit construire le Pont Corneille et deux rues (la rue Lafayette et la rue de la République). Cette statue fut érigée en 1853 et fabriquée avec le bronze des canons conquis à Austerlitz.

He also built the Corneille bridge, and two streets (Lafayette Street and Republique Street). In 1853, this statue was built with the bronze of cannons gained at the battle of Austerlitz.

My wife and I lived in Waterloo Belgium several years back. These was where Nepoleon was defeated in 1815 during the Napoleonic Wars. There was a Waterloo monument however the closer one got to the monument the harder it was able to tell who won. Nepoleon tourist trinkets certainly out numbered Wellington trinkets.
